- Lecturia is an AI audiobook generator. You upload an ebook, pick a named e-reader voice, and Lecturia turns the text into a natural-sounding audiobook you can listen to on Web, iOS and Android, CarPlay or Android Auto. It's built for people who already own ebooks they want to listen to, not buy again.
- Which file formats does Lecturia support?
- EPUB, PDF, TXT — including scanned PDFs, which are routed through OCR automatically — up to 100 MB per file. Kindle KFX and AZW3 are not supported, because they're DRM-protected. Convert them to EPUB with Calibre first, then upload.
- Whose voices does Lecturia use?
- 6 named e-readers at launch, powered by Google and OpenAI. Each one is a persona with a fixed voice and a stated set of languages, and you pick the one that narrates your book. Custom voice cloning is not in scope for v1.
- How does Lecturia compare to Speechify?
- Speechify charges roughly $139.00 per year, gated behind a trial that auto-bills (checked 2026-08-11). Lecturia gives you about 100K characters of free audio when you verify your email, then charges per book or per credit pack, never per month. There's no trial, no auto-renewal, no retention loop. "Cancelling" means not buying more credits.
- Which languages does Lecturia support?
- 7 content languages for audio conversion: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian and Ukrainian. The app interface itself ships in 6 locales: English, Russian, Ukrainian, German, Spanish and Italian. Each e-reader lists the languages it narrates, and the catalog filters itself to your book's detected language.
- How much does it cost?
- There is no subscription. You pay in credits, and every conversion shows its exact credit cost before you confirm. Foundation by Isaac Asimov (about 420K characters) costs 908 cr on Google WaveNet or 1,021 cr on OpenAI TTS-1. Credits come in packs from $1.49 to $89.99, which works out to $0.0090–$0.0099 per credit depending on pack size.
- What do I get for free?
- Verifying your email address unlocks a one-time grant of 36 cr — about 100K characters of audio on Google Standard, enough for a short novel. The grant is valid for 30 days, and there is nothing to cancel afterwards.
- Does Lecturia work in the car?
- Yes. iOS integrates with CarPlay; Android integrates with Android Auto. You get lock-screen controls, chapter navigation, playback speed from 0.5×–3×, a sleep timer, and audio that resumes exactly where you left it on another device.
- Where are my books stored?
- On EU-jurisdiction infrastructure: uploaded files, extracted text and generated audio are stored in EU-jurisdiction storage. Some of our processors are US companies; those relationships are covered by GDPR safeguards (standard contractual clauses) — see our Privacy Policy. Your files stay yours: you can delete a book and its audio at any time.
